Description:
The Addmaster 208H is an electric add-lister originating from the 1964 design by Addmaster Corporation (USA). The early models sold over 1 million units between 1964 and 1970 in the USA, and due to it's huge success Addmaster (U.K.) was set up in 1970 to sell to the UK and European markets. This particular model, 230 improvements later, was sold in 1973.
The basic design has an electric motor, which drives a mechanical assembly, which using the mechanical numeric keypad for input, prints the results on a paper roll. This revolutionary design has a patented long lasting, self inking, single spool ribbon, which in itself is quite impressive. Other features like it's self lubricating (Delrin & Teflon) bearings and Delrin print-out wheels made the Addmaster a superior machine of it's type.
The Addmaster is powered from 230VAC 50Hz AC supply. There is no power switch as it has an internal micro-switch which is only activated when either of the "Total" buttons is depressed. This turns on the motor and the Addmaster will cycle through it's calculating / printing process and when finished releases the micro-switch to automatically turn off the motor.
When Retroseum received this particular example it was missing the timing belt between the motor and the mechanism. The original timing belt is an MXL 0.080" pitch 1/4" width 78 tooth belt. This part was difficult to find but an MXL 0.080" 80 tooth belt was fitted. The 80 tooth belt is a little loose, but just about fits well enough for occasional demonstration.
