RP200011

Description:
The Game Boy Camera was a B&W digital camera add-on for the Nintendo Game Boy range of hand-held game consoles. Although originally targeted at the Game Boy Pocket (It was called the "Pocket Camera" in Japan), it was compatible with all the Game Boy models except the Game Boy Micro. It was intended as an entertaining and fun accessory mainly aimed at children and included in-built image capture, edit and creativity software. The software also contained some mini games. The camera itself produced 256×224 pixel 4-greyscale images which were down scaled to half resolution on the unit with anti-aliasing. Images were stored on the camera's internal memory and it could be interfaced with the Game Boy Printer, which utilized thermal paper to print any saved images. The "Link Port" could also be used to transfer images to other Game Boy's.

The Game Boy Camera was available in a range of colours including blue, green, red, yellow, clear purple and a limited edition gold.

This exhibit is the blue model which is in good working order complete with it's Instruction Booklet.

The musician Neil Young used a picture taken with a Game Boy Camera on the cover of his 24th studio album, Silver & Gold, released in 2000.
