Description: This exhibit has been upgraded somewhat over the years. Looking at the label on the rear it shipped with 1GB memory, 250GB Hard Disk and the 2.66GHz 5150 CPU's. Also it would have likely been shipped with OSX 10.4.7 Tiger or 10.5 Leopard. The rest of the hardware looks original though.
The Apple Mac Pro was the replacement for their PowerMac G5 PC's. Released in 2006, the Mac Pro was one of the new generation to be based around Intel x86 architecture rather than Motorola/IBM PowerPC. Intended for professional users it featured dual Intel Xeon server processors, DDR2 Memory, PCIe expansion bus and room for 4 SATA II hard disks. Early 1,1 models were shipped with a range of Xeon 5100 Woodcrest series dual-core processors making them Quad-core Eight-Thread machines, whereas later 2,1 models added the Xeon Quad-core Clovertown models to the line-up. Processor speeds ranged from 1.86GHz to 3.0GHz with memory configurations from 1GB to 32GB. In 2006 these were truly powerful workstation computers with a price starting around £1700.
