Description:
The Acorn A7000 is a budget version of the Acorn RiscPC. It was styled similar to the Archimedes A4000 / A5000 and was intended as their replacement. It's specification was similar to a basic model RiscPC 600, but the CPU and VRAM were not upgradeable. To reduce costs further the A7000 used the ARM7500 which is an ARM CPU, VIDC20 graphics controller and MMU on a single chip, and had only 1 SIMM socket and no second CPU support. The graphics controller shared the system memory. Although it continued support for the standard Archimedes podules it only has room for either one podule or a CD-ROM. It was also the first Acorn machine to use a standard PS/2 mouse instead of the previous Acorn quadrature design.

The A7000 was succeeded by the A7000+, which was a slightly improved design with the faster ARM7500FE processor, 8MB EDO RAM, larger hard disk and newer RiscOS 3.71. A7000+ production was continued by Castle Technologies after Acorn closed down their workstation division in 1998.
